The price of crude oil is reaching USD130 per barrel.
Tomorrow, the Malaysian government will announce the new measure in the form of subsidy scheme which I am not quite sure whether it is going to be politically motivated or just a stunt because our regional neighbor have been paying more – per liter basis.
I doubt it’s going to be a sustainable solution looking at the mood of global economy which is quite bleak – to add salt to wound, the world is also facing global food crisis.
I don’t think subsidy or price control is a sustainable “solution”.
Perhaps the government should invest in launching campaigns to conserve energy, save fuel consumption, protect the environment, bike to work, and exercise for better health – which will eventually reduce the government healthcare budget.
I am tired of looking at those ugly, visually polluting billboards by the roadside with pictures of politicians who could have done a better job.
Use those strategic spaces for campaigns for the benefit of the whole country. After all, subsidy is only ONE variable in the whole equation.
