Kota Kinabalu International AIrport
Malaysians from Peninsula Malaysia are required to pass through immigration in Kota Kinabalu International Airport and have their ID checked and recorded.
Why?

Because it's a special arrangement made between Malaya and Sabah&Sarawak as one of the terms and conditions of the formation of Malaysia. For a factual info of this, please refer to Immigration Act 1959/63
