毛泽东

Mao Zedong was a Chinese Marxist military and political leader, who led the Communist Party of China (CPC) to victory against the Kuomintang (KMT) in the Chinese Civil War, and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976. In China, Mao is also recognized as a poet, calligrapher and writer.

Regarded as one of the most important figures in modern world history, Mao is still a controversial figure today, over thirty years since his death. He has supporters both inside and outside China, who regard Mao as a great revolutionary leader whose thought is the highest expression of Marxism. Supporters within China believe that the rise of China can be attributed to Mao's leadership.

However, Mao's policies are blamed by critics for causing severe damage to the culture, society, economy and foreign relations of China, as well as the deaths of millions of Chinese, although historians debate the degree to which Mao and his policies can be held responsible. Major socio-political programmes, such as the Anti-Rightist Campaign, Great Leap Forward, and Cultural Revolution, were promoted as fulfilling the ideal of a strong, prosperous and socially egalitarian China, but are largely regarded as failures. Although officially held in high regard in China, he is seldom mentioned by the Chinese government, whose policies have diverged greatly from those of Mao, and his influence on it has greatly diminished since his death.

Che Guevara

Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (June 14, 1928 – October 9, 1967), commonly known as Che Guevara or El Che, was an Argentine-born Marxist revolutionary, medic, political figure, and leader of Cuban and internationalist guerrillas. As a young man studying medicine, Guevara traveled roughrough[›] throughout Latin America, bringing him into direct contact with the impoverished conditions in which many people lived. His experiences and observations during these trips led him to the conclusion that the region's socio-economic inequalities could only be remedied by revolution, prompting him to intensify his study of Marxism and travel to Guatemala to learn about the reforms being implemented there by President Jacobo Arbenz Guzmán.

In 1956 in Mexico, Guevara joined Fidel Castro's revolutionary 26th of July Movement, which seized power in Cuba in 1959. After serving in various important posts in the new government and writing a number of articles and books on the theory and practice of guerrilla warfare, Guevara left Cuba in 1965 with the intention of fomenting revolutions first in Congo-Kinshasa, and then in Bolivia, where he was captured in a military operation supported by the CIA and the U.S. Army Special Forces. Guevara was summarily executed by the Bolivian Army, in the town of La Higuera near Vallegrande on October 9, 1967.

After his death, Guevara became an icon of socialist revolutionary movements worldwide. An Alberto Korda photo of him (shown) has received wide distribution and modification. The Maryland Institute College of Art called this picture "the most famous photograph in the world and a symbol of the 20th century."

Is it a meeting or a makan trip?

I just got back from Kuantan

My work requires me to go to Kuantan quite regularly to fulfil the port operation part of my work scope. If I go alone, it would normally be a fly in - fly out sort of trip. If I go with my colleagues, we will drive and the typical itinerary would be... (as it was, today)

0730: depart from Damansara Heights office
1030: nasi lemak Zaman (near Kuantan airbase)
1130: meeting at Kuantan Port
1230: lunch at MIDO (Balok)
1430: depart from Balok
1630: Yik Kee restaurant (Karak town, near the traffic lights)

NASI LEMAK ZAMAN (nothing to do with Dina)

Probably the most popular nasi lemak in Kuantan, or even the whole of Pahang state. I have been there many times and it has ALWAYS been FULL.
Only opened from breakfast to tea time.

Specialty:
Steaming hot nasi lemak wrapped in daun pisang
Nasi dagang - not that great. Terengganu ones are far better, of course!
Roti canai - very good

Service: Excellent, Fast!

RESTAURAN MIDO

It has been around since 1970s
Family run, always full during lunch.
I think they are only opened for lunch.
No aircond and hot!

Specialty:
Chinese food
Calamari
Steamed Garoupa
Garlic prawn
Deep fried Japanese tofu (yummy!)

Service: Bloody slow, but worth the wait!

YIK KEE RESTAURANT

They have 2 branches in KL.

Specialty:
Pandan Tart.
Durian pancake
Kaya swiss roll

Service: Excellent.

A great stop for a cuppa on the way back to KL before you hit the jam in Gombak.

Oh.. the meeting with the port was very fruitful..... by the way ;-)

So old yet so cool

One of the perks that come with my job is having to report to cool bosses.

They are old people with hardly any ego or having the need to tell people who they are or how successful they are. Very established yet simple and extremely down to earth.

One of them entered my room. Besides asking how I was doing, making lunch plan or telling me about his golf games, he also complained about not very happy sitting in one of the boards.

What are you waiting for, just resign from the board lah. Besides you have several other boards with all the perks that come with it. And you are already retired and you shouldn't be coming to the office. People will come to you to get your signature and all. Enjoy your life la DSR!

You right lah M. You right. I am waiting for Tabung Haji to get him Umrah visa but they are very SLOW. I need to plan for my golf holiday in Perth.

After complaining about Tabung Haji and it's Minister he fiddled with his hand phone and played out loud Bobby McFerrin's Don't Worry Be Happy.

Retired, yet still very COOL!

Do people still listen to..

I can't help but to notice even in latest models of cars the radio still equipped with an AM frequency receiver.

I can't remember the last time I actually tune to AM radio.

What is it for?

I am just curious.

My Favourite Pieces in ONE Shot

My photography work :-)

and

My underutilized bike :-(

Our very own puns intended..

KL is a good friend, like a brother to me but severely deranged when he is in corny mood. Sometimes it made us all puked.

KL just just arrived from a 10 day holidays in Thailand.

His corny-ness was felt as soon as he landed in KLIA, before he even checked out of the airport.

I sms-ed him to get 2 bottles of vodka at the duty free.

His answer: ABSOLUTely.

This is the guy who walks around the club with a glass full of ICE in his hands, approaches a girl and says:

I've got ICE for you.

Get it?

*SIGH*

ALL Puns Intended

This is fresh from my mailbox sent by Marsimmo:

1. Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The
ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.

2. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve
you, but don't start anything."

3. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.

4. A dyslexic man walks into a bra.

5. A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and
says: "A beer please, and one for the road."

6. Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: "Does this
taste funny to you?"!

7. "Doc, I can't stop singing 'The Green, Green Grass of Home." "That
sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome." "Is it common?" Well, "It's Not
Unusual."

8. Two cows are standing next to each other in a field. Daisy says to
Dolly, "I was artificially inseminated this morning." "I don't believe
you," says Dolly. "It's true, no bull!" exclaims Daisy.

9. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were nothing
to look at either.

10. Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.

11. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I
couldn't find any.

12. A man woke up in a hospital after a serious accident. He shouted,
"Doctor, doctor, I can't feel my legs!" The doctor replied, "I know
you can't - I've cut off your arms!"

13. I went to a seafood disco last week...and pulled a mussel.

14. What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fsh.

15. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and
says "Dam!"

16. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in
the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't
have your kayak and heat it too.

17. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were
standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After
about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to
disperse.
"But why," they asked, as they moved off. "Because", he said, "I can't
stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."

18. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to
a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal." The other goes to a family in
Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself
to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her
husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband
responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."

19. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time,
which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very
little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered
from bad breath. This made him..."A super-calloused fragile mystic hexed
by halitosis".

20 And finally, there was the person who sent twenty different puns to
her friends, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would make
them laugh. No pun in ten did.

The Podium

I have been following the race since F1 1st came to Malaysia.

Been going to the race with Dr. K very regularly for the past years.

With my bunch of friends, we used to watch races at Souled Out in Desa Sri Hartamas or pubs Bangsar. Another excuse to party.

Sometimes, RonR who is now living in London had F1 party at his apartment where he served chicken adobo and drinks on Sunday nites. We went to the office the next day with massive headache.

Before that, I was not really into the sports at all.

I have always been a Ferrari fan but not anymore. I found it rather monotonous towards the end of Schumacher's reign.

This year I went to Sepang just for photography purposes and I wasn't in the mood. I do not support any team because I have not been following the race.

This shots are rather boring, like shots from some journalists.

I prefer artistic and creative presentations of rare subjects, which not easy to come by...

I post it anyway...

Feeling like a Zombie

My weekend was very hectic. (more hectic than weekdays!)

Earth Wind and Fire concert, organized by a HM-a multi talented with multiple businesses and interests friend. That was very enjoyable. I slept at 5am.

Farewell dinner, a couple of friends, RE & AA, who are renting out their (very very nice) apartment and moving to a landed property which will be converted into a residence, design house, art and furniture gallery all under one roof. The party is to mark the end of their stay at the apartment. Or... just any excuse to party.

Sunday morning went to F1 with HM, JD and YI. It was HOT. YI's brilliant idea to skirt the airport rather than using the usual road to Sepang Circuit saved us a lot of time and there was no jam at all. Those who went via the usual way had to go through bumper to bumper jam. Clue: Low Cost Terminal route. (jalan belakang).

After F1, I was pooped. But, have to go to a birthday party of ML. His 50th and that was fun. There was an opera singer from Bali. As usual ML also sang a couple of songs and his performance was very entertaining.

I was forced to deliver a song duet with Dr. N. So, we sang Fly Me To The Moon. It was not bad, I was told. MM and JD sang You Will Always On My Mind. I think Dr. N and I performed better ;-)

ML also included the best dressed / attired male and female of the night and even a very fantastic salsa performance.

Great party actually. I left at 1am while more than 50% of the guest were still partying.

Don't they have to work on Monday?
